How to Authorise Navigator to Submit VAT Returns

When processing VAT returns using the Making Tax Digital (MTD) platform in Navigator, it is necessary to link your HMRC credentials with Navigator. This authorisation allows Navigator to submit VAT returns on your behalf. Authorisation must be completed during the initial setup and periodically renewed (typically every 18 months).


Steps to Authorise Navigator

1. Initial Check for Valid Credentials

  • When entering the VAT Returns system, Navigator automatically verifies whether it has valid HMRC credentials to connect with MTD.
  • If the credentials are missing or expired, Navigator will display a web page prompting you to complete the authorisation process.

2. Follow the Authorisation Process

  1. Open the Authorisation Page:

    • If Navigator detects missing or invalid credentials, a web page will open to guide you through the process.
  2. Click Continue:
