If your trial balance (TB) shows that it is out of balance, this usually points to an underlying system issue rather than an error in the actual accounts. The imbalance happens when the system’s transaction indexes are no longer aligned with the underlying data.
Cause
The most common reason is that the transaction indexes that drive the trial balance report need to be rebuilt. These indexes act as the behind-the-scenes structure that keeps totals and balances in line. If they become corrupted or misaligned, the trial balance will not reconcile.
Resolution
The issue is resolved by running a process known as a nominal rebuild. This routine refreshes and rebuilds all the transaction indexes that make up the trial balance. Once complete, the indexes are correctly aligned again, and the trial balance should return to its proper balanced state.
Because this process involves system-level maintenance, you will need to contact the helpdesk team to request the nominal rebuild. They will run the process safely on your behalf.
