A nominal code in Navigator is a composite structure designed to provide detailed financial analysis across various business areas. Each code consists of 10 sub-codes, separated by dots, with each part representing a specific aspect of the transaction. This guide explains the components of a nominal code and their functions.

The code is broken into the following components:


0. Company Code (e.g., 01)

  • Purpose: Identifies the company to which the nominal code belongs.
  • Notes:
    • Often hidden from the Extended TB View (e.g., shown as 1.30.10.30.1.0.0.1.1).

1. Branch Number (e.g., 1)

  • Purpose: Identifies the branch related to the transaction.
  • Special Cases:
    • Control Branch 0: Used for company-specific transactions rather than those tied to an individual branch.

2. Department Code (e.g., 30)

  • Purpose: Specifies the department associated with the transaction.

  • Purpose: Categorises sales based on department and customer type.

6. Parts Franchise

  • Purpose: Tracks parts by franchise (e.g., Ford, Oils).
  • Setup Requirement: Franchises must be enabled in Nominal Ledger > Utilities > Setup.
  • Unmapped Franchises: If not set up, postings default to a value of zero.

7. Job Type

  • Purpose: Categorises workshop jobs by type.
  • Common Job Types:

8. Vehicle Make
