How to Match a Credit Note Against an Invoice

Modified on Mon, 16 Dec at 10:42 AM

When working with sundry invoices on a sales ledger account, there are two ways to match a credit note against an invoice:

Option 1: Use the "Match Against Inv" Button

  1. Raise the Credit Note:
    • Post an invoice with a negative value to create the credit note.
    • Once the credit value is entered, a button labelled Match Against Inv will become active.
  2. Match the Credit Note:
    • Click the Match Against Inv button.
    • This allows you to immediately match the credit note to an invoice on the same account, clearing both together.
  3. Post and Complete the Batch:
    • Finalise the batch to save the changes.

Option 2: Post a Zero Receipt

  1. Post the Credit Note:
    • Create the credit note by posting it directly to the sales ledger account without using the Match Against Inv button.
  2. Post a Zero Receipt:
    • Record a zero receipt on the sales ledger account.
    • Use the zero receipt to manually match the invoice and the credit note, clearing them together.

Both methods achieve the same result, so you can choose the one that best suits your workflow.
