Navigator Running Slowly - Troubleshooting

Modified on Tue, 21 Apr at 12:48 PM

Navigator runs in the cloud. Every action sends data from your device to a remote server and receives a response. This process happens many times per minute. Any delay in this chain will slow the system.

1. Internet Connection

Navigator relies on three key measures of connection quality.

Download speed
This is how fast your device receives data from the internet. Measured in Mbps.

Impact:

  • Slow download speeds delay page loads
  • Reports and records take longer to display

Upload speed
This is how fast your device sends data to the internet.

Impact:

  • Saving data takes longer
  • Actions like posting transactions feel delayed

Ping (latency)
Ping measures how long it takes for a signal to travel from your device to the server and back. Measured in milliseconds (ms).

Simple explanation:

  • Low ping means fast response
  • High ping means delay between action and result

Example:

  • 10–30 ms: Fast, near-instant response
  • 50–100 ms: Noticeable delay
  • 100+ ms: System feels slow and unresponsive

Packet loss
This occurs when some data sent over the network does not reach its destination.

Impact:

  • Pages may fail to load properly
  • Actions may need to retry, causing delays

2. Antivirus or Firewall

Antivirus and firewalls protect your system by scanning traffic and blocking threats.

Real-time scanning
Many antivirus tools inspect every file and web request.

Impact:

  • Each Navigator request is scanned before it completes
  • Adds small delays to every action, which builds up

Firewall rules
Firewalls control what traffic is allowed.

Impact:

  • Misconfigured rules can slow or block communication
  • Repeated checks can delay requests

3. Web Protection or Filtering

Web protection tools inspect internet traffic at a deeper level.

URL filtering
Checks each website request against a list of allowed or blocked sites.

Impact:

  • Adds a delay before each request is approved

SSL inspection
Decrypts secure traffic (HTTPS), inspects it, then re-encrypts it.

Impact:

  • Navigator uses secure connections for every action
  • Each request is opened, checked, and re-secured
  • This adds delay to every interaction

Deep packet inspection
Analyses the content of data packets in detail.

Impact:

  • Increases processing time for every request
  • Causes noticeable lag in cloud applications like Navigator

4. Hardware Limitations

Even though Navigator runs in the cloud, your device still handles the interface.

RAM (memory)
RAM stores active data for running applications.

Impact:

  • Low RAM causes slow switching between screens
  • System may freeze or stutter

Storage speed
Older hard drives (HDD) are slower than modern solid-state drives (SSD).

Impact:

  • Slower loading of browser data
  • Delays in general system responsiveness

CPU usage
The processor handles tasks on your device.

Impact:

  • High CPU usage from other programs slows Navigator
  • Browser performance drops under load

Why This Matters
Slow performance affects every task. Users wait longer, repeat actions, and risk errors. Understanding each factor helps you identify the cause and fix it quickly.

Next Steps

Work through each area:

  1. Run an internet speed test and check ping
  2. Review antivirus settings and exclusions
  3. Check if web filtering or SSL inspection is active
  4. Monitor device performance using Task Manager
