How to Add Navigator as an Exception in Windows Firewall

Modified on Wed, 4 Sep at 1:20 PM

Windows Firewall is a built-in security feature that helps protect your computer by controlling network traffic. In some cases, however, you may need to allow specific applications to communicate through the firewall, especially if the software is being blocked. If you're using Navigator.exe and need to add it as an exception to the firewall, follow this step-by-step guide.

Steps to Add Navigator.exe as an Exception in Windows Firewall

Step 1: Open Windows Firewall

  1. Open the Start Menu: Click the Start button or press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Search for Firewall Settings: In the search bar, type "Windows Defender Firewall" and select it from the list of results.

Step 2: Access Advanced Firewall Settings

  1. In the Windows Defender Firewall window, look at the left-hand sidebar and click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall".
  2. A new window will appear showing a list of allowed apps and features.

Step 3: Modify App Permissions

  1. In the Allowed apps window, click on the Change settings button at the top right of the window. This will enable the controls for adding or removing apps.
  2. Scroll through the list to see if Navigator.exe is already listed. If it is, ensure that both Private and Public checkboxes are ticked.

Step 4: Add Navigator.exe as an Exception

If Navigator.exe is not in the list:

  1. Click the Allow another app button at the bottom.
  2. In the pop-up window, click Browse and navigate to the location where Navigator.exe is installed (C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\DmsNavigator).
  3. Select Navigator.exe and click Open.
  4. After adding it, click Add to include it in the list of allowed apps.

Step 5: Ensure Private and Public Access

  1. After adding Navigator.exe, make sure that both Private and Public network types are checked. This ensures that the application can communicate through the firewall, regardless of the type of network you're connected to.

Step 6: Save Changes

  1. Once you've confirmed that Navigator.exe has been added as an exception and both network types are allowed, click OK to save your changes.

Step 7: Test Navigator.exe

Now that Navigator.exe has been added to the Windows Firewall exception list, you can test Navigator to make sure it works properly.
