Common VAT Exempt Workshop Request Lines

Modified on Sat, 9 Aug at 8:48 AM

Some workshop request lines do not attract VAT. These are usually set up with VAT codes such as ZERO, EXEMPT, or OUTSIDE SCOPE. Knowing which lines are exempt helps you avoid confusion when checking invoices.

Why This Matters
Knowing which items are VAT exempt helps you:

  • Invoice customers accurately

  • Stay compliant with VAT rules

  • Avoid unnecessary disputes over VAT amounts

  • Speed up end-of-month reconciliations

Typical VAT Exempt Lines

  • MOT test fee

  • Certain government inspection fees

  • Statutory roadworthiness checks

  • DVLA administration charges

  • Vehicle tax or licensing fees

Key Points

  • Exempt lines should have the correct VAT code in the standard job setup.

  • Navigator will not apply VAT to these lines on proformas or invoices.

  • If an exempt line is charging VAT, check the VAT code in Workshop > Service Parameters > Standard Jobs.
