Creating/Amending an SMS Template in ACM

Modified on Mon, 14 Apr at 8:17 AM

SMS templates in Navigator’s ACM (Aftersales Contact Manager) module allow you to create standardised text messages for customer communication. These templates are especially useful for reminders such as MOT due dates, service appointments, or combined MOT/Service notifications.

Using a template ensures consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in customer outreach, while also keeping messaging compliant and within the character limits of SMS billing.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access the SMS Template Editor

  1. Navigate to Marketing in the main menu.

  2. Select New ACM.

  3. Click on SMS Template Editor.

This will open the template creation interface where you can manage or create message templates for different types of reminders.

Step 2: Choose the Template Type

You’ll be prompted to select one of the following template types:

  • MOT – for MOT-specific reminders.

  • Service – for vehicle servicing notifications.

  • MOT/Service – for combined reminders.

Selecting the correct category ensures the template appears in the appropriate ACM campaigns.

Step 3: Build Your Template

  1. Use the editor to type your message.

  2. To personalise the content, double-click on the available fields to insert dynamic data. These might include:

    • Customer Name

    • Vehicle Registration

    • MOT/Service Due Date

    • Booking Link or Contact Info

For example: Hi [Customer Name], your vehicle [Registration] is due for [MOT/Service] on [Due Date]. Please contact us to book.

Step 4: Save the Template

Once your message is complete:

  • Click Save to store the template.

  • It will now be available for selection in the relevant ACM campaigns.

Important Consideration: SMS Length and Costs

  • A single SMS message is limited to 160 characters.

  • If your message exceeds 160 characters, it will be split and charged as multiple SMS messages.

  • When building your template, keep an eye on character count and avoid unnecessary words or punctuation to stay within a single-message threshold when possible.
