How to End Instances of Navigator.exe Using Task Manager

Modified on Sat, 8 Nov at 9:39 AM

Sometimes Navigator may appear frozen, fail to close properly, or show an error when reopening.
In these cases, you can manually close any active Navigator.exe processes using Task Manager.
This ensures the application fully shuts down before you restart it.

Why This Matters

When Navigator doesn’t close cleanly, background processes can stay running.
These leftover processes can prevent the program from reopening, cause errors, or slow down your computer.
Ending them through Task Manager resolves these issues quickly and safely.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open Task Manager

You can open Task Manager in one of the following ways:

  • Option 1: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard.

  • Option 2: Right-click the taskbar (bottom of the screen) and select Task Manager.

  • Option 3: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then choose Task Manager from the list.

Step 2: Locate Navigator Processes

  1. Once Task Manager opens, click the Processes tab.

  2. Look through the list for any entries named Navigator.exe.

  3. There may be more than one instance listed.

Step 3: End the Processes

  1. Select each Navigator.exe entry one at a time.

  2. Click the End Task button in the bottom-right corner of the window.

  3. Repeat this until all Navigator.exe processes have been closed.

Step 4: Restart Navigator

  1. Close Task Manager.

  2. Reopen Navigator using your usual desktop shortcut or Start Menu link.

  3. The program should now start normally.
