How Warranty Labour Rates Are Applied by Manufacturer

Modified on Tue, 24 Feb at 9:06 AM

In Navigator, warranty labour and parts pricing are not "one size fits all." The rates applied depend entirely on a combination of the Vehicle Make and the specific Warrantor Type selected on the workshop job.

Why This Matters

  • Financial Accuracy: Incorrect rates distort your labour recovery and parts margins.

  • Reconciliation: It prevents £ mismatches when the manufacturer or provider sends their self-billing reconciliation.

  • Automation: Correct setup ensures Service Advisors don't have to manually override prices, reducing human error.

The Key Rule: Exact Make Matching

Navigator uses an "exact match" logic for manufacturer names.

  • The Logic: If a vehicle record lists the make as SsangYong, a warranty rate entry set up for KGM will not be applied.

  • The Action: You must ensure you have a rate entry for every variation of a manufacturer name currently held in your stock records.

System Setup Steps

  1. Navigate to Workshop > Service Parameters.

  2. Open Labour Rates > Warranty Rates.

  3. Create/Edit Make Entries: Ensure these exactly match the "Make" field used in your vehicle stock records.

  4. Set Labour Rate: Enter the agreed warranty labour rate for that specific manufacturer.

  5. Set Parts Pricing: Define the parts pricing method (e.g., Cost + 10%).

  6. Save: Ensure the changes are committed before testing.

Handling Service Plan Warranty Types

Service plans often require a different financial structure than standard manufacturer warranty claims.

  • Dedicated Types: If your service plans require a higher parts uplift or a different labour rate, create a separate Warrantor Type (e.g., "Warranty Service Plan").

  • Job Assignment: Service Advisors must select this specific type in the Chargeable To field when the work is service-plan related to trigger the correct £ calculations.

Operational Check (Validation)

To ensure your rates are pulling through correctly, perform the following test:

  1. Create a test workshop job for each manufacturer you represent.

  2. Select the Chargeable To field and assign the relevant warrantor.

  3. Add a part and a labour line.

  4. Confirm: Verify that the parts uplift and labour rates match your agreed manufacturer terms exactly.
