Purpose

Navigator Data Cleansing helps you keep your customer and vehicle records accurate, current, and relevant.
A clean database improves customer communication, reduces wasted marketing spend, and ensures that service reminders and follow-ups reach the right people.

Why This Matters

Data cleansing prevents issues that can damage customer relationships or waste resources.
It ensures:

  • Deceased customers are removed.

  • Customers who have moved are not contacted.

  • MOT expiry dates are accurate.

  • Vehicles no longer owned by customers are excluded from follow-ups.

  • Scrapped vehicles are deleted.

By removing inactive or incorrect data, you save money on marketing while improving your workshop’s effectiveness.

Navigator provides several built-in tools to manage and update your database:

How to Use the Data Cleansing Tool

Step 1: Open the Tool

Go to Marketing > Marketing Data Management > Customer Data Cleansing.

Step 2: Choose a Cleansing Option

You can select from three cleanse types:

1. Customer Cleanse

  • Removes deceased customers.

  • Identifies customers who have moved.

  • Improves overall accuracy of customer data.

2. Vehicle Cleanse

  • Excludes vehicles that customers no longer own.

  • Removes scrapped vehicles.

3. MOT Cleanse

  • Updates all vehicle MOT expiry dates.

  • Priced at 1.2p per record.

  • See more details in MOT Data Cleanse - Marketing Database Management.

Step 3: Submit Your Request

After selecting the cleanse type:

  1. Submit the request.

  2. The system will show how many records are being cleansed.

Step 4: Approve the Cleansing

  1. Double-click the submitted cleanse to review it.

  2. Click Approve to confirm the update.

Step 5: Review the Results

After processing:

  • The No Updated field shows how many updates were made.

  • A single record might include several updates (for example, both a new address and a deceased flag).

Costs

ServiceCost
Customer Data Cleansing£0.80–£1.00 per update, depending on the data source (e.g. deceased register lookups cost more than postcode updates).
Vehicle Cleanse£0.10 per vehicle update (e.g. a keeper change and MOT update count as two updates, or £0.20 total).
Vehicle Data Watch£10 per 1,000 vehicles monitored per month.

A single successful MOT reminder to a previously lost customer can offset the entire cost of monitoring thousands of vehicles.
